Mark Hanshaw, 27, of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and Tiara Adams, 31, of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, have been convicted in a federal heroin ring that poisoned communities across the Eastern Panhandle. The bust, announced by Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen, exposes a ruthless operation that moved deadly drugs and laundered dirty cash with cold precision.
Hanshaw pled guilty to one count of “Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin,” a charge that carries a maximum penalty of twenty years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. His role in the scheme placed him at the heart of the distribution network, pushing lethal doses of heroin into neighborhoods already ravaged by the opioid crisis.
Adams, his co-conspirator, pled guilty to one count of “Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments.” She now faces up to twenty years behind bars and a fine of up to $500,000. Authorities say she helped disguise the flow of illicit cash, cleaning drug profits through elaborate financial maneuvers.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Z. Krasinski, who hammered the defendants with evidence gathered over months of surveillance and investigation. Federal prosecutors made no concessions—demanding accountability for every bag of heroin sold and every dollar laundered.
Investigative work was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. Their collaboration dismantled the network through wiretaps, financial tracing, and undercover operations that left no room for denial.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings. Sentencing will be determined under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, weighing the severity of the crimes and the defendants’ criminal histories. For now, both Hanshaw and Adams await their day in court—and a reckoning long overdue.
