Harrescia Hopkins, PPP Loan Fraud, Georgia 2023

A former federal correctional officer was sentenced to prison for fraudulently obtaining Paycheck Protection Program loans.

Harrescia Hopkins, 34, of Conley, Georgia, was sentenced to five months in prison for her role in the scheme.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Hopkins applied for two PPP loans for $19,100 each in August 2020 and January 2021, claiming the loans were for her business, Hopkins Towing and Storage.

However, Hopkins Towing and Storage was not a real and functioning business, and Hopkins used the loan proceeds to fund personal expenses, including a Caribbean cruise and other travel, a new Chevrolet Blazer, landscaping for her house, restaurant meals, and retail goods.

Hopkins pleaded guilty to wire fraud on December 20, 2022, and was sentenced on June 8, 2023, to five months in prison to be followed by two years of supervised release.

As part of her sentence, Hopkins was ordered to repay all three loans in full, totaling $46,004.04.

The case was investigated by the Office of Inspector General and the Small Business Administration’s Office of Inspector General.
