HARRISBURG – A local man has been slapped with serious charges related to cocaine trafficking and firearms offenses, according to a recent indictment.
Omar Tollinchi-Torres, 42, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 1, 2021, for attempting to possess with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, the indictment alleges that Tollinchi-Torres attempted to possess the large quantity of cocaine on March 30, 2021, in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
Not only is Tollinchi-Torres accused of attempting to possess the cocaine, but he was also allegedly in possession of a Glock model 23 .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol during and in relation to the attempted drug trafficking offense.
The investigation into Tollinchi-Torres was a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania State Police and United States Postal Inspectors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul J. Miovas, Jr. is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.
Tollinchi-Torres faces a maximum penalty of 40 years of imprisonment, a term of at least 4 years of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $5,000,000 fine for the attempted distribution possession with the intent to distribute of a controlled substance offense.
He also faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, a term of 5 years of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $250,000 fine for the possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
Indictments are only allegations and all persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. The potential sentence for a specific defendant will be determined by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date, but for now, Tollinchi-Torres remains a suspect in a serious crime that could have devastating consequences for the community.
