Crime news from the federal courts of Florida: William Hernandez, 27, a resident of Hawthorne, FL, has been slapped with serious charges in federal court. The indictment lists him for possessing with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, carrying a firearm during drug trafficking offenses, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The grim allegations stem from an operation coordinated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Gainesville Police Department, with additional support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. If convicted, Hernandez could face life imprisonment—a stark reminder of the stakes involved in drug trafficking.
United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, John P. Heekin, confirmed the charges against Hernandez. The arraignment is scheduled for July 29th at 2:15 p.m., before United States Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry in Gainesville’s U.S. Courthouse.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. Assistant United States Attorneys James A. McCain and Adam Hapner are leading the prosecution.
