Brooke Ashley Darby, Credit Card Scam, Texas 2024

A 29-year-old woman from Texas has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for her role in a credit card fraud scheme that netted her thousands of dollars in stolen goods and gift cards.

Brooke Ashley Darby, of Fort Worth, Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill to 28 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $15,325.25 in restitution.

According to the plea agreement, Darby admitted to traveling to Idaho with her co-defendant, Charmaine Montgomery, to make fraudulent purchases using stolen credit card numbers encoded onto stock gift cards. The duo made purchases at retail stores on June 23 and June 24, 2015, and obtained approximately $13,095.90 in gift cards and merchandise.

Upon her arrest, Darby and Montgomery were found in possession of approximately 250 gift cards encoded with unauthorized credit card numbers.

Darby pleaded guilty on November 10, 2015, to committing wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Montgomery pleaded guilty on December 1, 2015, to the same charges, with sentencing set for February 11, 2016.

The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Boise Police Department.

Darby’s sentence marks the latest in a string of convictions in a high-profile case that has shaken the community. The case has raised questions about the ease with which credit card information can be stolen and used to commit fraud.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials say they are working to identify other individuals who may be involved in the scheme.
