Heather Horrighs, 44, Sentenced to 54 Months for Bank Robbery

A Springfield woman, Heather Horrighs, 44, has been sentenced to 54 months in prison for her involvement in a brazen bank robbery in Springfield, Illinois, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Springfield Field Office.

On September 13, 2021, Horrighs and co-defendant Theodis Parnell jointly planned to rob the Alliance Community Bank located at 6530 North IL-29 in Springfield, IL. During the heist, Horrighs entered the bank with a package that she claimed contained a bomb, and after receiving $12,888 from two tellers, she left the bank with Parnell acting as the getaway driver.

Horrighs has been in the custody of the United States Marshal Service since her arrest in November 2021, after being indicted for her role in the bank robbery. She pleaded guilty in January 2023 and has been awaiting her sentencing.

U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless handed down the 54-month sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. The statutory penalties for bank robbery are up to 20 years in prison, up to a $250,000 fine, and up to three years supervised release.

The case against Horrighs and Parnell is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. Parnell was previously sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his role in the bank robbery.

Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Z. Weir represented the government in the prosecution, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Springfield Field Office, with assistance from the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

The case highlights the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and communities to prevent and prosecute violent crimes.

The total amount stolen from the Alliance Community Bank during the robbery was $12,888.
