Dontrail Xavier Roundtree, Armed Carjacking, Georgia 2016

A 24-year-old Atlanta man has been sentenced to 11 years, nine months in prison for an armed carjacking at a College Park gas station.

Dontrail Xavier Roundtree was convicted of the crime after he stole a car at gunpoint from a patron at a gas station in College Park, Georgia, on January 26, 2016. Roundtree then led police on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds of up to 130 miles per hour, before crashing the stolen vehicle and fleeing on foot.

According to U.S. Attorney John Horn, the chase was a reckless and brazen act that put the lives of innocent citizens and police officers in danger. Horn said, ‘The public can rest easier knowing that law enforcement put an end to Roundtree’s crime spree.’

Roundtree was apprehended after a brief struggle with police officers, during which he kicked one of the officers. He was later sentenced by U.S. District Judge Steve C. Jones to 11 years, nine months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Jolee Porter prosecuting the case. ATF Special Agent in Charge Wayne Dixie praised the sentence, saying, ‘The sentence that Roundtree received represents the seriousness of his crime, and this is just another example of ATF’s commitment in combating violent crime to protect our communities.’

The crime was a brazen act of violence that put the lives of many people at risk. The sentence handed down to Roundtree is a just punishment for his reckless and violent behavior.

Roundtree’s sentence is a reminder that the law will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence and that those who commit such crimes will be brought to justice.
