Andrew Edick, Child Pornography Creation and Minor Exploitation, New York 2022

A 37-year-old Herkimer County man has been indicted for his alleged role in creating child pornography and sexually exploiting minors, federal authorities announced yesterday.

According to the indictment, Andrew Edick, 37, of Mohawk, New York, used two young children, born in 2009 and 2013, to engage in sexually explicit conduct between August and October 2022. The children were allegedly forced to create images and videos that Edick then shared online, and he is also accused of possessing numerous images and videos of child pornography.

The indictment also alleges that Edick committed these crimes while required to register as a sex offender. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at a future date.

Edick was arrested on May 18, 2023, after a complaint was filed in federal court alleging his sexual exploitation of one of the children. He has been detained since that date.

If convicted of all charges, Edick faces a minimum of 35 years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a supervised release term of at least 5 years and up to life. He may also be ordered to pay restitution to the victims of his offenses and forfeit the device used in the offenses.

The investigation into Edick’s alleged crimes was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with assistance from the New York State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin S. Clark is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation.

Project Safe Childhood is designed to marshal federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. For more information about the initiative, visit www.justice.gov/psc.

The charges in the indictment are merely accusations, and Edick is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. His arraignment is pending and will be announced at a later date.

Edick’s alleged crimes are a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by child predators and the need for continued vigilance in protecting our communities’ most vulnerable members.
