Jose Gilberto Alvarez, a 70-year-old senior citizen from Olivehurst, has been accused of selling heroin on four occasions between April and July 2026 in the Yuba-Sutter County area. Alvarez allegedly distributed about one pound of heroin during this time. The Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, conducted the investigation that led to Alvarez’s indictment. Alvarez is currently in custody.
The indictment charges Alvarez with four counts of heroin distribution. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years in prison, and a $5 million fine. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Campbell.
