ST. LOUIS, MO – Rickey Dee McGregory, 37, of Union, Missouri, will spend the next six and a half years behind bars after being sentenced today for distributing heroin that nearly killed another person. McGregory received 78 months in federal prison for one count of distributing heroin, a charge stemming from a February 2016 incident.
The case unfolded when the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department responded to a non-fatal overdose call. The victim, desperate and clinging to life, immediately identified Rickey Dee McGregory as the source of the heroin. Deputies quickly focused their investigation on McGregory, and a search of his Union, Missouri residence turned up evidence consistent with a full-blown heroin distribution operation.
According to court documents, McGregory didn’t bother denying his role in the near-fatal incident. He confessed to providing the heroin to the victim, acknowledging the devastating consequences of his actions. The details of the overdose itself, while not publicly released, were enough to convince United States District Judge Audrey G. Fleissig to hand down a substantial sentence.
The 78-month sentence sends a clear message: dealing poison with disregard for human life will not be tolerated. While the victim survived, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the deadly grip heroin has on communities across Missouri and the nation. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department’s swift investigation was crucial in bringing McGregory to justice.
McGregory pled guilty in October to the felony charge. He appeared before Judge Fleissig today to receive his sentence. The investigation was handled entirely by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, showcasing the effectiveness of local law enforcement in tackling the heroin epidemic.
Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the Midwest. The sentence is a small victory in a much larger battle, and the streets of Union, Missouri, are undoubtedly a little safer with Rickey Dee McGregory locked away.
