Buffalo Man Faces 10 Years for Heroin Charge
A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for his role in a heroin trafficking ring. Jeffrey Brown, 43, was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
Brown’s troubles began on November 17, 2016, when law enforcement officers arrested him at a pre-arraigned location while he was conducting a drug transaction. As he was being taken into custody, Brown dropped a bag of heroin, which led to a subsequent investigation that revealed he had previously purchased 700 grams of the illicit substance.
Brown’s guilty plea in January 2018 to Manslaughter in the 1st Degree in New York State Court pending sentencing is unrelated to the federal charges he is currently serving time for. The case against him was brought forward by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Buffalo Police Department, and the Cheektowaga Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Adler handled the case against Brown, who is currently serving time for the federal heroin charges. The investigation that led to Brown’s arrest was conducted under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Byron Lockwood, and the Cheektowaga Police Department, under the direction of Chief David Zack, also played a significant role in the investigation that led to Brown’s arrest and subsequent sentencing.
