A 62-year-old man from Marion County, Kentucky, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute significant quantities of heroin and methamphetamine.
Jerry Lee Bright, a resident of Marion County, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Louisville on one count of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Bright faces a serious controlled substance offense, with the allegations outlined in the indictment.
U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett said the work and partnership of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) during the investigation of this case were commendable.
Prosecutors have stated that if convicted, Bright faces a mandatory sentence of five years in prison up to a maximum of forty years in prison for each count.
A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department and HSI are investigating the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mac Shannon prosecuting the case.
