ALBUQUERQUE – In a shocking turn of events, Daniel Arrieta, 39, of Anthony, N.M., was sentenced to 120 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his heroin trafficking conviction. The harsh sentence was handed down this morning in federal court in Las Cruces, N.M.
Arrieta’s downfall began on April 18, 2013, when he sold 3.6 grams of heroin packaged for retail distribution to an undercover agent in exchange for $200. The transaction took place during two meetings in Anthony, N.M., and El Paso, Texas.
Arrieta’s involvement in the heroin trafficking conspiracy was uncovered when he was arrested on May 10, 2013, on a criminal complaint charging him with participating in the conspiracy.
Following his arrest, Arrieta pled guilty on December 13, 2014, to a felony information charging him with participation in a heroin distribution conspiracy.
The investigation into Arrieta’s activities was led by the Las Cruces office of the FBI. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah M. Davenport and Shaheen Torgoley.
Arrieta’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in heroin trafficking. The sale of even small quantities of heroin can have devastating consequences for individuals and communities.
As the Grimy Times continues to monitor the situation, it is clear that law enforcement agencies are committed to taking down heroin traffickers and bringing them to justice.
