Heroin Trafficker Sentenced to 51 Months
BUFFALO, N.Y.–A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking operation.
Luis Vazquez, 40, was convicted of conspiring to possess and distribute more than one kilogram of heroin in a case that spanned from Chicago to Buffalo.
According to investigators, Vazquez was pulled over by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in March 2012 while driving a truck and trailer en route from Chicago to Buffalo. A search of the vehicle uncovered 2.4 kilograms of heroin, which Vazquez and others were transporting for distribution in the Buffalo area.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten, who handled the case, applauded the sentencing as a major victory in the fight against heroin trafficking.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, with DEA Special Agent in Charge Brian R. Crowell and Ohio State Highway Patrol Colonel John Born leading the charge.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. praised the dedication and hard work of all those involved in the case, saying it is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to keeping our communities safe.
The sentencing of Vazquez is a significant blow to the heroin trafficking operation, and a reminder that those who engage in such activities will be held accountable for their actions.
