Two Allegheny County residents have been caught in a federal sting operation accused of violating federal firearms and narcotics laws. Jamiek Moore, 21, and Jaimere Dehonney, 20, both from Pittsburgh and Penn Hills, respectively, were named in a five-count indictment for their alleged involvement in heroin trafficking.
According to the indictment, Moore and Dehonney conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, on or about June 8, 2017. Additionally, Moore is charged with possessing with the intent to distribute a quantity of heroin and marijuana, both Schedule I controlled substances, on or about May 15, 2017.
The indictment further charges Moore and Dehonney with possessing a firearm in furtherance of said drug trafficking crimes. This serious allegation highlights the risks that individuals take when engaging in illicit activities.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than 5 years to a maximum of life in prison, a fine not to exceed $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Amy L. Johnston is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Penn Hills Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
It is essential to note that an indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. In this case, the burden of proof rests on the prosecution to demonstrate the guilt of the accused.
