FORT PIERCE, FL – Two Highlands County men are facing decades behind bars after a brazen attack on law enforcement and convictions for large-scale drug trafficking. Alex Guerrier, 29, and Robin Jean Guillaume, 28, were sentenced today in Fort Pierce, Florida, for their roles in a multi-county cocaine distribution network – and for opening fire on officers attempting to execute arrest warrants.
The sentencing follows a joint investigation led by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Wifredo A. Ferrer, and a coalition of federal, state, and local agencies including the DEA, US Marshals Service, ATF, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Highlands County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO). During the warrant service, two officers were shot, a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those upholding the law.
Guerrier received a staggering 330 months – 27.5 years – in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Guillaume will spend 308 months (25.6 years) behind bars, also with five years of supervised release after his incarceration. Both were convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. The pair were key players in a drug trafficking organization that stretched across Highlands, Broward, and Miami-Dade Counties, pushing multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine hydrochloride and crack cocaine.
Court documents reveal the organization wasn’t just dealing in powder cocaine; they were also distributing crack cocaine, commonly known as “rock,” and other illegal narcotics. This wasn’t a small-time operation. The scale of their distribution network warranted the involvement of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a multi-agency partnership designed to dismantle high-level drug enterprises. The OCDETF brings together the resources and expertise of various law enforcement bodies to tackle complex criminal organizations.
“This case demonstrates the commitment of federal, state, and local law enforcement to dismantling drug trafficking organizations and bringing those responsible to justice,” Ferrer stated. He specifically commended the investigative work of the involved agencies and thanked the Sebring Police Department for their support. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer C. Nucci prosecuted the case, securing the lengthy sentences for both defendants.
