Hillary Mask Home Invasion: Nash Convicted

ANDERSON, SC – Carlton Tyrone Nash, 37, of Greenville, learned his fate yesterday after a federal jury found him guilty of possession by a firearm and ammunition by a felon. The two-day trial, held before United States District Judge Timothy M. Cain, detailed a brazen home invasion where Nash, unbelievably, wore a Hillary Clinton mask while terrorizing a Greenville family. The conviction carries a significant potential sentence, and Nash remains in custody awaiting it.

The evidence painted a disturbing picture. On the morning of March 22, 2016, Nash forced his way into a residence and immediately fired a .25 caliber pistol, narrowly missing a resident. He then dragged the victim into the street, initiating a violent struggle. The victim’s roommate intervened, striking Nash in the head with a baseball bat. It was during this chaotic brawl that Nash’s mask came off, revealing his identity before he fled, leaving the gun and the bloody mask behind.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputies responded swiftly to the 911 call. Forensic technicians meticulously processed the scene, and DNA analysis confirmed the blood on the discarded mask belonged to Nash. This evidence formed the basis of the arrest warrant, and GCSO investigators took Nash into custody just days after the attack. The case didn’t stop there.

Enter “Operation Real Time,” a multi-agency initiative designed to target repeat offenders illegally possessing firearms in the upstate South Carolina region. ATF Special Agents, working alongside GCSO, quickly secured a federal arrest warrant for Nash. During questioning, Nash admitted to possessing both the mask and the weapon. This collaborative effort underscores the program’s aim: to escalate charges and ensure violent criminals face maximum penalties.

“Operation Real Time” is a powerhouse partnership including the Greenville Police Department, Anderson Police Department, South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services, and numerous federal agencies. Since its inception in August 2015, the program has led to the federal prosecution of 90 defendants and the seizure of over 125 firearms. Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis emphasized his office’s commitment: “The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is committed to removing illegal weapons from violent offenders and are very glad to be a part of this program and will offer any assistance we can.”

ATF Special Agent in Charge C.J. Hyman echoed the sentiment. “ATF is extremely appreciative of our partners and this collaborative effort to make our communities safer.” The sentencing date for Carlton Tyrone Nash has not yet been announced, but with a federal conviction secured, he can expect a significant period behind bars.
