A Guatemalan citizen has been charged with illegal reentry into the United States, according to a recent announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Homero Ruiz-Luis, a 35-year-old native and citizen of Guatemala, was charged on September 9, 2023 with one count of illegal reentry into the United States.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ruiz-Luis is accused of reentering the United States illegally and being apprehended in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
The charge against Ruiz-Luis carries a maximum sentence of up to 6 months’ imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000.
The investigation into Ruiz-Luis’ activities was conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Special Assistant United States Attorney Alice Song Hartye is prosecuting the case.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until found guilty in court. The sentence following a finding of guilty is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Ruiz-Luis was charged in a one-count information filed with the court in Harrisburg.
