Fort Myers, Florida – The grim reaper of the streets, United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg, has made a bone-chilling announcement. Two Honduran drug lords, Noe Armando Melendez-Amador and Carlos Damian Acosta-Melendez, have been apprehended in Charlotte County for their involvement in a chilling fentanyl trafficking operation.
Melendez-Amador, the mastermind, faces up to 20 years in federal prison after being charged with possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl. His cohort, Acosta-Melendez, isn’t faring any better; he’s been tagged with illegal re-entry by a previously deported alien and prior convicted felon charges, putting him on track for up to 10 years in the clink.
The DEA set its traps, and they were well rewarded. An undercover agent, who has earned his stripes, negotiated the sale of approximately 15,000 fentanyl pills from Melendez-Amador. The pills, totaling nearly four pounds with the counterfeit marking “M 30,” posed as pharmaceutical grade oxycodone.
But this wasn’t just a one-man show for Melendez-Amador. He brought his partner in crime, Acosta-Melendez, along for the ride from Denver, Colorado to Charlotte County, Florida, where they were swiftly nabbed by law enforcement during the drug transaction.
