Man Indicted for Illicit Reentry
Ohio – A federal grand jury has indicted Oscar Mejia Gomez, 29, of Honduras, with illegal reentry into the United States after deportation, according to a statement from United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach for the Northern District of Ohio.
The indictment, returned on [date], charges Gomez with entering the country without the express consent of the Secretary of Homeland Security, following his deportation from Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona on August 11, 2011.
According to the indictment, Gomez’ illegal reentry into the United States occurred on or about November 7, 2013.
Gomez, if convicted, faces a sentence to be determined by the Court, taking into account his prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David M. Toepfer.
A conviction for illegal reentry into the United States can result in a sentence not exceeding the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
Gomez is currently in custody awaiting trial.
