Veontae Leemond Lewis, Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Kentucky 2023

A Hopkinsville man is going down for 11.5 years after getting caught with a small fortune in methamphetamine.

Veontae Leemond Lewis, 32, was sentenced to 138 months in prison by U.S. District Judge David Bunning for possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine.

The feds say it all went down on September 4, 2023, when law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on a car operated by Lewis. Upon approaching the vehicle, an officer smelled marijuana and asked Lewis to step out of the car.

Inside the vehicle, the officer found approximately five pounds of methamphetamine in a bag, two marijuana cigarettes, and a cool $907 in cash.

Under federal law, Lewis has to serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. That’s 118 months out of 138. Upon his release from prison, he’ll be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for five years.

The investigation was a joint effort between the DEA and the Erlanger Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Winslow is handling the case on behalf of the United States.

A federal indictment charges Lewis with one count of possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky Carlton S. Shier, IV, and other law enforcement officials announced the sentencing.
