BEAUMONT, Texas – Jesus Najar Silva, a 41-year-old Houston man, has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking ring, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston.
Silva, who pleaded guilty on Nov. 29, 2016, was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He was identified as a supplier during an investigation into the distribution of multi-kilograms of meth in Houston and Eastern Texas.
Information presented in court revealed that Silva delivered more than one pound of meth to undercover officers in Houston and Cleveland, Texas, four times. Wiretaps and other investigative tools uncovered at least three others involved in the organization. The recorded calls led to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of Silva’s source and two other conspirators.
This case is a result of an extensive joint investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). Its mission is to dismantle serious drug trafficking organizations responsible for the nation’s illegal drug supply. The DEA, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Houston Police Department led the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Englade prosecuted the case.
“Silva’s sentence sends a clear message that federal law enforcement will not tolerate drug trafficking activities,” said Featherston.
