New York’s Hunts Point Police Benevolent Association (HPPBA) has been rocked by scandal as its former president, Victor Davila, faces embezzlement charges. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Davila is accused of stealing over $35,000 from the union by charging personal expenses and withdrawing cash for his own use.
Acting United States Attorney Joon H. Kim labeled Davila’s actions as betrayal, stating that the former president ‘allegedly embezzled thousands of dollars from the union he was entrusted to serve.’
The alleged misuse of funds includes fraudulent charges at a wholesale club and restaurants, along with cash withdrawals and deposits into his personal account. The Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) emphasized that union officials are not allowed to use funds for personal gain, as such actions betray the trust of members.
Victor Davila, 50, was arrested this morning in Manhattan and faces up to five years in prison if convicted. Assistant United States Attorney Jacob Warren is handling the prosecution.
The case is a stark reminder of the potential for corruption within public institutions and the Office’s commitment to investigating such allegations.
As this case unfolds, the Hunts Point community watches closely, awaiting justice for the misappropriated union funds and the restoration of trust within the HPPBA.
