Ty Brandon Roberts, Child Pornography Production, Ohio 2024

DAYTON, Ohio – In a chilling revelation of child exploitation, Ty Brandon Roberts, 38, from Huber Heights, Ohio, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court today to producing and coercing minors into participating in child pornography. The depraved activities spanned over 15 years, with victims as young as eight years old.

Roberts, now 38, was charged with creating hundreds of images and videos depicting his sexual abuse of at least one minor, and communicating online with numerous other minors worldwide to produce the illicit material. His plea includes charges for producing child pornography and coercing a minor.

According to court documents, Roberts began his despicable conduct in 2007. He sexually abused an 11-to-12-year-old boy, snapping Polaroid photographs of the abuse. The man kept these original images in his possession until they were seized by law enforcement in 2022. His plea also acknowledges creating digital versions of these photos.

In a sickening twist, Roberts admitted to assuming the guise of a teenage girl online to entice and coerce minor boys into sending him explicit content. The FBI has identified 44 minors as victims, predominantly aged between 11 and 14, depicted in over 400 images and videos. However, many more potential victims remain unknown.

Roberts faces a severe penalty for his heinous crimes. Production of child pornography is a federal crime with a potential sentence ranging from 15 to 30 years in prison. Coercing a minor carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years and extends up to life imprisonment. Sentencing will be determined by the Court based on advisory guidelines and other statutory factors.

Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Rose presided over Roberts’ guilty plea, with Assistant United States Attorneys Kelly K. Rossi and Dwight Keller representing the United States in the case. The investigation was led by the FBI Cincinnati Division, with support from Huber Heights Police Chief Mark Lightner.
