Fort Dodge Man Faces Eight Months in Prison for False Firearm Statement
Hunter Collier, a 22-year-old man from Fort Dodge, Iowa, has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
According to evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings, Collier purchased a .380 ACP pistol from a federally licensed business in Fort Dodge in July 2022. However, when filling out the federal purchasing form, he falsely stated that he was not a marijuana user and that he was purchasing the firearm for himself.
The next day, Collier made two more firearm purchases in Des Moines, Iowa, in direct contravention of the law. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood prosecuted the case, which was also investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
Collier pleaded guilty on April 1, 2024, and was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. As part of his sentence, he will serve a two-year term of supervised release after completing his eight-month imprisonment. It’s worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system.
