Fort Dodge Man Pleads Guilty to Illegally Purchasing Firearm
A 22-year-old man from Fort Dodge, Iowa, has pleaded guilty to making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
Hunter Collier, a resident of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was convicted of making a false statement during the purchase of a .380 ACP pistol in July 2022 from The Iowa Outdoor Store in Fort Dodge. At the time of purchase, Collier represented that he was purchasing the firearm for himself, when in fact he was purchasing the firearm for another individual.
Collier further admitted to purchasing an additional firearm for the same individual from JT Guns & Supply in Des Moines, Iowa.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Patrick T. Greenwood and Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
Collier faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and not more than three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
Collier remains free on bond pending sentencing. Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand will be set after a presentence report is prepared.
