Firearm Offenses Take Center Stage in Des Moines

Des Moines, IA – In a shocking turn of events, 24-year-old Kenneth Quinton Crosby of Des Moines has been sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in prison for his role in making false statements during the purchase of firearms.

According to court documents, Crosby knowingly made several false misrepresentations on a required form, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive (ATF) Form 4473, at least five times between 2020 and 2021. The form requires firearm buyers to answer several questions, including those about the buyer’s competency, criminal history, drug use, immigration status, and history with domestic violence.

Crosby’s actions led to him being charged with four counts of False Statement During Purchase of a Firearm and one count of Unlawful Drug User in Possession of Firearms. His guilty plea ultimately led to the sentence handed down.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Essley prosecuted the case, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) investigating the crime. U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program brings together law enforcement and community members to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
