A brazen thief has been brought to justice in Iowa. Justin Christopher Reed, age 33, of Davenport, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for Stealing Firearms from a Licensed Dealer.
The crime was committed on October 8, 2021, when Reed stole four guns from R&R Sports in Bettendorf. The store’s owner called the police after a motion alarm went off, and an investigation led to Reed’s arrest. The four stolen guns were recovered.
Reed pleaded guilty to the charge on October 8, 2021. He was sentenced on February 17, 2022, to 30 months in prison, which he will follow with three years of supervised release. In addition to his prison term, Reed was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,450 and $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
The case was investigated by the Bettendorf Police Department, Davenport Police Department, and the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case.
Reed’s sentence serves as a warning to those who would seek to profit from the theft of firearms. The law will not tolerate such behavior, and those who engage in it will be held accountable.
The people of Iowa can rest a little easier knowing that a predator is behind bars. But we must remain vigilant, for there are many more like Reed who would seek to harm our communities.
