Five men, all illegally in the United States, were sentenced in federal court in the Southern District of Georgia for re-entering the country after being previously deported. The men, from Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, were identified during traffic stops in Chatham and Atkinson counties between January and April 2026. They pleaded guilty to Illegal Re-entry after Removal or Deportation and were sentenced to time served, with immediate deportation to follow.
The defendants, including Aguelio Lemos Hernandez, 35, of Honduras, and Henry Marin-Hernandez, 41, of Guatemala, were transferred to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after their sentences were imposed by U.S. District Court Chief Judge R. Stan Baker.
Other defendants sentenced included Luis Angel Velasquez-Montes, 27, of Mexico, Miguel Aparicio-Ortiz, 40, of Mexico, and Moises Valenzuela-Mendez, 42, of Mexico. All were identified as illegal aliens during traffic stops and transferred to ICE custody.
The sentences were announced by Margaret E. ‘Meg’ Heap, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. The cases highlight the ongoing efforts of federal authorities to enforce immigration laws and deport those who re-enter the country illegally.
