A large-scale drug trafficking operation in southern Georgia has resulted in prison time for three defendants and convictions for 33 others. The operation, which spanned several communities, including Douglas, Georgia, involved the import and distribution of large amounts of illegal drugs. The conspiracy was directed from inside Georgia state prisons using contraband cell phones. The investigation led to the seizure of 21 illegally possessed firearms and more than $17,000.
Dequatte Tucker, 34, Roger Jenkins, 28, and Corey Hill, 36, pleaded guilty to various charges related to the conspiracy. Tucker was sentenced to 188 months in prison, Jenkins to 84 months, and Hill to 18 months. The sentences were imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Lisa G. Wood.
The investigation and subsequent convictions are a result of the efforts of law enforcement agencies to crack down on drug trafficking in southern Georgia. U.S. Attorney Margaret E. “Meg” Heap stated that the sentences imposed hold the conspirators accountable for their roles in the operation and serve as a warning to those who would engage in similar activities.
