A convicted murderer serving life in Calhoun State Prison in Georgia tapped into a multi-million-dollar meth and heroin trade from behind bars, using contraband cellphones to coordinate shipments to Atlanta. Jarvis Matthews, already serving life for two fatal shootings in 2001 and 2002, directed a network of dealers to distribute the deadly narcotics in the Cleveland Avenue neighborhood.
Matthews’s operation raked in millions of dollars, which he laundered through a complex web of financial transactions. His reign of terror from state custody lasted until a federal jury found him guilty in October 2025.
‘This convicted murderer brazenly used contraband cell phones behind prison bars to distribute millions of dollars of illegal drugs in our community and launder drug money for criminal cartels,’ said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg.
Matthews was sentenced to an additional 35 years in federal prison for his crimes, ensuring he’ll spend decades behind bars for his role in the deadly operation.
