Daltha Ray Terrell, aka Goo Ray, a 31-year-old Austin man, was involved in a fentanyl trafficking operation that led to the overdose death of one of his customers. On March 24, 2023, Terrell presented himself to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, claiming he had been shot. However, further investigation revealed that he had accidentally shot himself while trying to pull his firearm from his jacket. A search of his car turned up approximately 636 blue pills with “M-30” markings, which tested positive for fentanyl.
Months later, on December 1, 2023, officers responded to an overdose on an Austin Capital Metro bus. The victim was declared deceased, and evidence from the victim’s phone and CashApp revealed that Terrell was the victim’s dealer. An investigation led to the discovery of approximately 2,000 blue “M-30” pills suspected to contain fentanyl at Terrell’s residence, along with two handguns and a shotgun.
Terrell pleaded guilty on January 21, 2026, to one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. He was sentenced to 220 months in federal prison for his role in the fentanyl trafficking operation, which resulted in the distribution of over 400 grams of fentanyl from June 6, 2023, until his arrest on May 22, 2024.
The case highlights the dangers of fentanyl trafficking and the devastating consequences it can have on communities. The investigation was likely carried out by federal agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and ATF, in collaboration with local law enforcement.
