A massive Jersey City fentanyl and cocaine trafficking ring has been dismantled, with 29 members and associates arrested on charges including fentanyl and cocaine trafficking, firearms offenses, and more, authorities announced.
The long-term wiretap investigation, led by Homeland Security Investigations, involved a collaborative effort with federal, state, and local agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the New Jersey State Police, and the Jersey City Police Department.
The charges, filed against 31 individuals, include conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Twenty-nine defendants have been arrested in this operation so far, with 26 having their initial court appearances yesterday before U.S. Magistrate Judges Jessica S. Allen and Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court.
U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer praised the collaborative effort, saying, ‘These defendants operated a large-scale drug trafficking enterprise that distributed massive quantities of dangerous drugs, like fentanyl and cocaine. That ended this week.’
