In a move to make a statement, a Dover man with a history of gun convictions is headed to federal prison for 40 months after getting caught dealing fentanyl and crack cocaine with a stolen handgun.
Deontray Watson, 24, had barely been out of state prison for a month after serving time for a prior gun conviction when authorities got a tip he was back to his old ways.
According to court documents, Watson was arrested at a gas station alongside an associate after law enforcement found fentanyl, crack cocaine, and a loaded, stolen handgun inside their vehicle.
The gun was discovered under the passenger seat, on top of Watson’s wallet, a brazen move that would prove costly for the defendant.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace took a personal interest in the case, noting that Watson has been an armed threat to the community for years.
The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Hall is more than double the longest sentence Watson has previously served.
