A New Orleans man’s reign as a crack kingpin came crashing down on April 22, 2026, when Steve Banks pleaded guilty to possessing over 1200 grams of crack cocaine and three loaded guns.
According to court documents, law enforcement searched Banks’ apartment on October 21, 2024, and seized the massive stash of crack, along with items used to manufacture and weigh it, over $12,000 in cash, and three loaded guns.
The guns included a stolen Glock pistol, a semi-automatic rifle, and a 9-millimeter pistol, all loaded with live ammunition.
Banks, 50, faces up to life in prison for the charges, which include possession with intent to distribute, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The verdict marks a major blow to the city’s ongoing struggle with narcotics trafficking, and serves as a reminder that law enforcement will continue to crack down on those who bring harm to their communities.
