Chicago’s Antoine Argue, a 38-year-old convicted felon, was locked away for 20 months in federal prison after being caught with a loaded handgun during a tense traffic stop last year.
The sentence, handed down on August 21, 2020, by Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand of the United States District Court in Sioux City, Iowa, came after Argue pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm as a felon.
Law enforcement officials in Sioux City, Iowa, had stopped Argue’s vehicle on June 15, 2019. A struggle ensued when officers ordered Argue to show his hands and maintain them up. The situation escalated when Argue exited the car, leaving behind a metal object that was later identified as a Taurus .45 caliber handgun.
Argue must also serve a two-year term of supervised release after serving his prison sentence. Parole is not available in the federal system.
This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime, and Project Guardian, a program dedicated to curbing gun violence and enforcing firearms laws. Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild handled the prosecution.
