Jose Perez-Segura, a 41-year-old Mexican national, pleaded guilty to unlawful reentry by a deported alien in Lufkin, Texas. The guilty plea came after Perez-Segura was arrested by the Lufkin Police Department in August 2025 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Further investigation revealed that Perez-Segura was an alien illegally present in the United States after being previously deported in 2011. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat illegal immigration and violent crime.
Perez-Segura’s guilty plea was entered before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn on May 13, 2026. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lufkin Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
The Operation Take Back America initiative aims to marshal the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from perpetrators of violent crime.
