Indianapolis Man Indicted for False Statements in Postal Worker Robbery

GRIMY NEWS: A gritty crime scene in Indianapolis has been reignited as 24-year-old Carl Davis faces serious charges for making false statements to federal officers regarding an armed robbery of a postal worker.

Davis, from Indianapolis, was indicted by a federal grand jury for lying to the United States Postal Inspection Service. His lies were uncovered on February 13, 2022, following his arrest and initial appearance.

According to court documents, Davis falsely claimed he witnessed the April 1, 2022, armed robbery of a postal worker. He implicated an individual as the robber, stating that the suspect later confessed to him. However, it was later revealed that Davis did not witness the crime and the alleged robber never confessed to him.

Conviction on charges of making false statements could land Davis up to five years in federal prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release under the U.S. Probation Office’s jurisdiction. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge, taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Zachary A. Myers, along with Rodney Hopkins, Inspector-in-Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Detroit Division, have announced the charges against Davis. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Eakman is handling the prosecution of this case. As always, an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
