SCRANTON, PA – A high-stakes confrontation behind bars has landed former inmate Ellis Hawkins in serious legal trouble. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Hawkins, aged 46 and currently at United States Penitentiary Canaan, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of aggravated assault of a federal employee.
Hawkins is accused of striking a corrections officer in the face with his head during an altercation at the prison back in December. The violent act left the officer suffering from substantial injuries, sending shockwaves through the correctional facility.
The investigation into this incident was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from officers at USP Canaan. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean A. Camoni is now tasked with prosecuting the case against Hawkins.
