TAMPA, FL – Aristeo Ceron-Morales, 48, of Sarasota, is facing serious federal charges after a grand jury returned an indictment accusing him of unlawful possession of a firearm and illegal reentry into the United States. U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the indictment today, signaling a major escalation in a case that combines multiple offenses and a troubling criminal history.
According to the indictment, Ceron-Morales, a convicted felon and an illegal alien, allegedly possessed a Sig Sauer P226 firearm, a Savage 410 shotgun, Hornady 9 mm ammunition, and Remington .38 ammunition – all items the government intends to seize as proceeds of the crime. If convicted on all counts, Ceron-Morales is looking at a maximum sentence of 17 years in federal prison. The charges stem from his status as a prohibited person under federal law, given his prior conviction and immigration status.
The indictment reveals a disturbing past. In 2002, Ceron-Morales was convicted of “Sex Offense Against Child Fondling – Conduct by Person 18 Years of Age or Older.” This conviction, combined with his illegal presence in the country, made possession of firearms a clear violation of federal law. Authorities allege he knowingly disregarded these restrictions, putting the public at risk. Adding to the severity, Ceron-Morales was previously removed from the United States in 2003, only to return illegally.
The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Homeland Security – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, and with assistance from the Bradenton Police Department, paints a picture of a determined effort to bring Ceron-Morales to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Abigail K. King will be leading the prosecution, promising a rigorous legal battle.
This case isn’t being treated as an isolated incident. It’s part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide initiative spearheaded by the Department of Justice. The operation aims to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from violent crime. It streamlines resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), demonstrating a unified front against criminal activity.
It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is simply a formal accusation. Ceron-Morales is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, the evidence presented so far suggests a pattern of disregard for the law, raising serious concerns about public safety. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case closely, providing updates as they become available.
