Bryan Roger Byers, Gun Possession by Unlawful User, Florida 2024

United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced that Bryan Roger Byers, a 57-year-old United States Postal Service employee from Jacksonville, has pleaded guilty to being in possession of a firearm as an unlawful drug user.

The grim revelation comes as Byers faces up to 15 years in federal prison for the crime. A sentencing date remains unscheduled.

Byers’ downfall began when a firearm he had purchased was recovered during a drug trafficking investigation, leading the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to delve deeper into his activities. Court documents and proceedings revealed that Byers used sex workers to find buyers for his firearms, exchanging them for drugs.

Records indicate that Byers acquired at least 10 firearms over the past four years. On April 2, 2025, a search warrant was executed at his home, resulting in the seizure of seven firearms, multiple rounds of ammunition, and two suspected crack pipes.

The next day, while attempting to purchase another firearm, Byers was arrested by ATF agents for being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm. The investigation was conducted by the ATF and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from various Department of Justice task forces, including the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
