Beckley, West Virginia – In a shocking incident at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) at Beckley, inmate Jerry Stewart, 31, was found to be in possession of a handcrafted weapon, commonly referred to as a "shank." This alarming discovery led to a thorough investigation and ultimately, Stewart’s sentencing.

The incident occurred on February 13, 2020, when a staff member at the FCI Beckley recovered the weapon after witnessing Stewart place the shank on the ground in the compound. The weapon, measuring approximately six inches in length, was sharpened to a point on one end and had a cloth handle on the other end.

According to court documents, Stewart’s possession of the shank was discovered following an incident involving another inmate. This serious breach of prison protocol has led to a severe punishment for the 31-year-old inmate.

United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence of 18 months in prison, which will run consecutively to the sentence Stewart is currently serving.
