Innocent Safari Nzamubereka, Resisting Deportation Orders, Louisiana 2015

Innocent Safari Nzamubereka, a 38-year-old Rwandan national, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for refusing to leave the country after being ordered to depart.

ALEXANDRIA, La. – U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced that Nzamubereka was sentenced on Monday, March 2015, to 70 months in prison for two counts of failure to depart for resisting removal after final deportation orders.

Nzamubereka refused to sign visa applications necessary for him to be sent back to the Republic of Rwanda where he had been ordered to return on March 12, 2013 and April 11, 2013.

According to evidence admitted at a two-day trial that ended on November 20, 2015, Nzamubereka’s actions were a result of his refusal to comply with the immigration authorities.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations conducted the investigation into Nzamubereka’s case.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Howard C. Parker and Dominic Rossetti prosecuted the case.
