GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Kevin Eugene Peterson, a 45-year-old resident of Duncombe, Iowa, has been sentenced to over sixteen years in federal prison for his role in the manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamine.
Peterson’s guilty plea, entered on December 12, 2012, admitted his involvement from January 2010 through August 2012. During this period, he conspired with others to produce at least 150 grams of pure methamphetamine.
The dark web of drug crime was exposed further when Peterson confessed to manufacturing meth on January 22, 2012, and distributing it to an individual working with law enforcement on April 23, 2012. The full extent of his criminal past was also laid bare, as he has at least six prior felony drug convictions.
Judge Mark W. Bennett, presiding over the Sioux City court, handed down a sentence of 198 months’ imprisonment for Peterson. A special assessment fee of $100 was imposed, with an additional ten-year term of supervised release following his prison term. In the unforgiving federal system, there is no chance of parole.
Peterson remains in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service until he can be transported to a federal correctional facility. The case against him was robustly prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde, with investigative efforts led by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Webster City Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
