Irish National Pleads Guilty to Passport Scam
BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a shocking revelation, Adam Doumbouya, a 30-year-old Irish national, has pleaded guilty to improperly using another person’s passport to enter the United States. The incident occurred on November 19, 2017, at the Amtrak Train Station Port of Entry in Niagara Falls.
According to court records, Doumbouya presented an Irish passport bearing the name Mariame Kourouma to a Customs and Border Protection Officer. He claimed to be traveling to New York City to visit relatives, but a thorough investigation revealed his true identity and motives.
An Officer entered Doumbouya’s fingerprints into a Fingerprint Identification System, confirming that he was, in fact, Adam Doumbouya, a citizen of Ireland, and not Mariame Kourouma. The investigation further revealed that the defendant was previously denied entry to the United States at the Rouses Point, New York Port of Entry, and had been refused a visa at the United States consulate in Dublin.
The case is the result of an investigation by Customs and Border Protection, under the direction of Rose Brophy, Director of Field Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Lamarque is handling the case.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for August 8, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. before Judge Richard J. Arcara.
The incident highlights the importance of thorough investigation and verification processes at ports of entry. It also serves as a stern warning to individuals who attempt to deceive authorities and evade the law.
