Isaac Davon Carter, Possessing Firearms as a Drug User, Iowa 2020

A Burlington man was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for possessing firearms as a drug user. Isaac Davon Carter, 31, was sentenced on an unspecified date, however the crime occurred on August 5, 2020, when he purchased four firearms from four different gun stores in Burlington, Clive, and Des Moines.

Additionally, five days later, the United States Postal Inspection Service intercepted a package shipped from Cedar Rapids to California and located ten firearms inside, including all four firearms Carter purchased. The package also contained the six additional firearms.

In September 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Carter’s Burlington residence and located a loaded Glock pistol. It was during this search that Carter admitted he was an unlawful drug user, lied on the ATF form to obtain the four firearms he purchased, and had procured the firearms for another person.

Carter’s involvement in this crime has resulted in a significant penalty. He will be required to serve a 30-month term of imprisonment. This sentence will be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.
