WEBSTER CITY, IA – A harrowing tale of drug trafficking and illegal firearms has culminated in a lengthy federal prison sentence for Heath Cahill, 44, from Webster City. Sentenced on June 10, 2019, Cahill faces more than 15 years behind bars after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and illegal possession of a firearm.
Cahill’s criminal history includes two prior felony drug convictions in Iowa, one in 1997 and another in 2005. His latest conviction stems from a conspiracy that spanned six months, distributing over 16 pounds of meth across the Webster City area between March and August 2018.
Law enforcement officials intercepted shipments of meth to Cahill’s residence using Federal Express from a source in California. In August 2018, they executed a search warrant at his home, resulting in the seizure of nearly 4 pounds of meth, over $2,000 in cash, a digital scale, and a firearm. Further investigations led to the discovery of two more firearms and additional cash.
Sentencing took place in Sioux City before United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams, who imposed a sentence of 183 months’ imprisonment followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. Federal parole is not an option for Cahill.
Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde prosecuted the case, while the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Webster City Police Department, Story County Sheriff’s Office, Ames Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa Division of Criminalistics Investigation conducted the investigation.
