A 39-year-old man from Henderson, Iowa has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for violating federal firearms laws.
Garret Allen Horgdal was stopped by a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy on March 8, 2022, and found in possession of three loaded firearms.
Horgdal was prohibited from possessing any firearms due to his prior felony convictions and his drug use.
Following his release from prison, Horgdal will serve three years of supervised release.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Mills County Sheriff’s Department, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement investigated the case.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made the announcement, stating that this case is part of the Department’s violent crime reduction strategy.
The violent crime reduction strategy aims to foster trust and legitimacy in communities, support community-based organizations, set focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measure results.
