Omaha Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine Distribution and Firearm Possession

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – A ruthless meth pusher has been brought to justice in a federal court, where he was sentenced to 132 months in prison for his crimes.

Russell Paul Sorbello, 59, was found in possession of methamphetamine and cocaine during a traffic stop in March 2023. A subsequent search of Sorbello’s hotel room revealed additional drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. Officers also located a firearm in Sorbello’s possession.

The discovery was made possible by the tireless work of the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, who investigated the case. United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement regarding the sentencing.

Sorbello will serve a total of 132 months in federal prison for his crimes. Upon his release, he will be subject to a 5-year term of supervised release. The federal system does not offer parole.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. The program brings together law enforcement agencies and community organizations to foster trust and legitimacy, set strategic enforcement priorities, and measure results.

As part of the PSN program, Sorbello will face the consequences of his actions, and the community can rest assured that justice has been served. The people of Iowa demand nothing but the highest level of public safety, and this sentencing is a testament to that demand.

Sorbello’s crimes demonstrate the devastating impact of methamphetamine distribution and firearm possession on our communities. His actions put innocent lives at risk, and he must face the music for his crimes.

We will continue to follow this story and provide updates on any further developments. For now, justice has been served, and the people of Iowa can breathe a little easier knowing that a ruthless meth pusher is off the streets.
