A Sioux City man with a history of violence has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for a firearm discovered during a domestic abuse investigation.
Isaac Rayford, 32, was sentenced on March 26, 2026, to 48 months’ imprisonment for his guilty plea to Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Drug User, and Domestic Abuse Misdemeanant.
According to the evidence presented in the case, on November 2, 2024, Rayford’s girlfriend found his loaded firearm sitting on the toilet bowl as he showered. She hid the weapon, and when Rayford discovered it was gone, he violently attacked her. The assault left her with a broken clavicle.
The victim had initially hidden the firearm due to fear of what Rayford might do with it. Rayford’s girlfriend escaped the apartment and sought help from a neighbor, who called the police. Rayford fled the scene before officers arrived, but he was later taken into custody on November 4, 2024, after the victim reported seeing him on her security camera entering her home.
Rayford’s criminal history includes convictions for two serious assaults, domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury, disorderly conduct, and other charges. His sentencing in federal court was carried out by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand.
As part of a nationwide initiative, Operation Take Back America, the Department of Justice has been working to combat violent crime and protect communities. This case is part of that effort, with the Sioux City, Iowa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigating the crime.
Isaac Rayford is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
